Student Programs

Hello, Masuda Monarchs!  We've got spirit, yes we do! We've got spirit, how 'bout YOU?  Masuda prides itself on being one of the top academic schools in Orange County, and I am proud that we also create a school culture and a sense of community through the activities on our campus.  It is my goal to encourage all students to participate in various activities that are ongoing throughout the year.  When a student is involved in activities or clubs, they gain a sense of belonging and connection to their school.  There are several opportunities for students to get involved, so find something that perks your interest and create memories of your time as a Masuda Monarch!  The following are ways that you can get involved with student recognition and positive incentives at Masuda:

Expect Excellence Program

Eligible students participate in an Expect Excellence assembly at the end of the first and second trimesters. The program recognizes and rewards students with the following honor cards:

Academic Excellence:  4.0 G.P.A. (red card)

Honor Roll:  3.50 – 3.99 G.P.A (white card)

Principal’s List:  3.0 – 3.49 G.P.A (blue card)

Monthly Achievement Awards

Teachers can choose to recognize student achievement in the classroom. These monthly awards include Royal Recognition awarded for outstanding improvement, citizenship, or effort, and the Student of the Month award for academic excellence.

Caught With Character Cards

All staff members are encouraged to recognize students exhibiting outstanding character by issuing character reward cards. These cards can be used as front-of-the-line passes at lunch or nutrition, for front row seating at assemblies, or at the end of each trimester in the character reward drawing.

Positive Incentives/Activities

Students who meet grade reporting and eligibility requirements may participate in the following activities:

  • Noon League Sports
  • Expect Excellence Program
  • Assemblies and Pep Rallies
  • After School Clubs and Activities
  • Intramural Sports Teams:  Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Track & Field
  • Grade Level Spirit Competitions
  • After School Dances
  • End of the Year Activities and Field Trips
  • Cheer
  • PAL

After-School Activities

Numerous after-school activities are offered for student enrichment throughout the year.  This includes after-school clubs, homework help, and math help.  Look for more information to be posted on SchoolLoop and put in morning announcements about dates and locations that these clubs will be meeting.

Assemblies, Dances, and Pep Rallies

Every trimester, the Masuda ASB provides a variety of assemblies for our students.  These assemblies include multi-media, motivational programs, cultural and dramatic presentations, plays, skits, and musicals. ASB assemblies have become a wonderful tradition at Masuda and an integral part of the culture and climate of the school.

Dances are held periodically throughout the year. Dances are only open to Masuda students, who must present a valid dance ticket upon entering the dance. PTSO provides food and drinks for purchase at each dance. When attending a dance, students are expected to remain for the duration of the dance and will only be able to leave early when signed out by a parent or guardian. Masuda rules, cell phone policy, and dress code remain in effect at all dances.

Pep rallies are also an important part of activities and school spirit.  ASB hosts a pep rally before each District Sports Tournament. This, along with yearlong spirit competition activities, is a wonderful opportunity to display and participate in Monarch Pride!

Eighth Grade Awards

Distinguished Scholar medals are awarded to students who have maintained a 4.0 G.P.A. each trimester all three years at Masuda Middle School.  At the end of the school year, specified eighth-grade students will be invited to attend an evening awards ceremony. Students who receive this invitation earn medals and certificates of the highest honor.  Award pins are distributed at Expect Excellence assemblies and monthly award recognitions, and students are encouraged to keep all pins and medals earned and wear them, with pride, on the day of the promotion.
