Welcome

Some Background:
I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was 16. I entered an accelerated program at CSUF to obtain both my degree and credential so I could start my career as soon as possible. Soon after, I obtained my masters in Mathematics Instruction and Curriculum Development. I'm passionate about teaching and sequencing content in a manner that simplifies the complexity in Math to students.

It's my 17th year here at Masuda. I've taught all levels of Math: Math 6, Math 7, and Math 8 (including collab, intervention, and accelerated courses). I'm currently teaching two classes of Math 8A (equivalent to HS Algebra), one period of Math 6 Support, and one period of Math 8.

Teaching Philosophy:
I'm an advocate for growth and progress, not achievement and grades. I encourage my students to take risks in the classroom to learn as much as possible. I challenge my students to think, make sense of their learning, and choose experiences that will allow them to reach the next level. A correct answer to a problem serves as extra practice and reconfirms what students have mastered. An incorrect answer to a problem is a welcomed opportunity for students to learn and grow. Being an educator for the last 15 years, I know that kids learn more from their mistakes than they do from the problems they answer correctly. I help students uncover what they don't know by regularly checking for mastery. Together, we then steadily make progress toward mastery to build a solid, lasting foundation in Math. My students know that their grades do not define them; it's their effort and how they go about learning and improving that matters most to me.
